Mark’s Friend Olympics – Archery – 8/08/2010
On Sunday I participated in the “Mark’s Friend Olympics” archery event. It was great to be back on the fields at Bowie High School. Afterwards, my friend Glen (who was recently hired as a football coach at Bowie) took us on a tour of the old locker rooms and gym. A lot has changed, but the smell is the same.

Texas Tech’s Mike Leach…. getting stabbed in the back!
Texas Tech… PLEASE don’t do anything stupid. He is the greatest coach in school history. Don’t punish him just because Adam James is the spoiled sissy child of a has-been NFL player. … and great job Adam James… if you’re lucky you’ll be playing at A&M Kingsville next year.
It’s football Adam…. and sometimes coaches can be like drill instructors. It’s not always fun and games and when you get some kind of discipline or “hazing” you have to take it like a man and move on. You just destroyed your college career. What coach will want a “tattle tail” on their team?
Furthermore, ESPN should fire analyst Craig James for interfering with an NCAA college football program… one would think his involvement with the program would keep him from being an unbiased commentator. The fact is, he was an analyst on almost EVERY televised Texas Tech game this year. It is also widely reported that James REGULARLY contacted his son’s position coach to give his input. Bowie Bulldogs….. that’s why!
In the spirit of the Bowie High School football team beating The Westlake Chaps last night for the first time in Bulldog history I want to share a funny story with all of you.
For those of you who know me, you know that way back in high school I was a football player. I was a typical jock. After graduation my dream was to play college football and then come back to Bowie and be a coach/teacher. Well, the plan didn’t exactly work out… but nevertheless I am still an avid supporter of the Bowie Bulldogs.
A couple years ago while at the Albertson’s grocery store, not far from my apartment and just a couple miles from the high school, my girlfriend and I walked out of the store and saw a girl selling cookies. Now, if you know me you know that me and cookies go together like peas and carrots.
We stopped at the little table to take a look at what kind of cookies she was selling. The girl, probably 14 or 15 years old, stood with her mother and had 2 or 3 different types of cookes displayed on the table.
The mother said,
“please help support the Akins High School girl’s soccer team”
…. and that’s when it happened
“oh, I can’t buy those”…
At that moment, as we were walking away from the table cookieless, I looked that little girl and her mother straight in the eyes and said very calmly and sternly:
….. ” Bowie Bulldogs… that’s why!”
If you would have seen the look of shock and disbelief in that mother’s eyes, the fear and confusion in that little girl’s eyes, and the disgust and horror in my girlfriend’s eyes… you would laugh your ass of each and every day… as I do even 2 years later.
Imagine a 30 year old man saying that to an innocent and pure sophomore girl just trying to raise some money for her high school soccer team. I didn’t even think before I spoke, it was as if Jesus himself made me say that to teach that little girl about the evil in the world.
It wasn’t until we got into the car that I realized how utterly ridiculous and pitiful I must have sounded. My ex reminds me of that moment weekly.
It just goes to show you, once a Bulldog always a Bulldog.
The recruiting coach should be given a raise
This is not a photoshopped picture folks…. I did the research! There really is a Johnny Dingle and a Scooter Berry on the West Virginia football team!
see for yourself!

There is only 1 thing that matters to me in this entire world…..
and that is… that the Texas Tech Redraiders come to Austin on November 10 and kick the living shit out of the Longhorns. I am a man alone in this city. Austin, a town of sheeple. Everyone wears orange. I understand that I live in the city where UT is located…. but come on people… not all of you went to Texas. Have a spine and support the under dog once… stand out in the crowd…
Anyway, thats me down below… number 64. That was a long ass time ago.. but I will tell you that on that day the Redraiders beat UT 33-9. I wont lie and tell you I was a star. I was what is called a “recruited” walk-on. At that time, Tech had so many infractions for letting football players make calls home from the office that they had a limited amount of scholarships. So, I was one of the lucky 6 to walk-on. It was fun while it lasted.
SO WHAT! WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR!
Ok we lost this year. That’s ok. Next year I predict a 44-9 Tech victory in Lubbock. What’s important is that when I was on the team at TECH (way back in the day). We won 33-9. That’s me in the picture, #64. And you are right… my uniform isn’t dirty because i was a scrub!
