Austin City Limits… a free, live taping.. THANKS @acltv on Twitter!

Twitter is good for something. I have been justifying my Twitter account to people for months. Early on, I won some free tickets to a comedy show at the Alamo Draft House by using Twitter.

Last Thursday I saw that the @acltv (Austin City Limits) Twitter channel was giving away free tickets to the Alejandro Escovedo taping on Friday. They posted a trivia question, I used my super nerd google powers and found the answer in less than 5 seconds. I in fact won 2 guaranteed seating tickets.

The set is much smaller than I imagined… but very very cool. The stage is pretty small, around the walls of the studio are bleacher seats. What you don’t see in most ACL television broadcasts is the standing room floor space. Usually when i’ve watched the show they only show the people seated. But there is in fact a floor.

Once you get in, you are escorted up an elevator. They take you up to the studio (i think it was the 6th floor) and once you get off they have some merch tables and 4 tables filled with beer! You can take 2. Then, if you want you can put the 2 beers under your seats and go get more. The people working there are unusually friendly (i mean it really stands out how pleasant they are). It really is a great experience.  I need to find out a way to get guaranteed entry EVERY time…

The show was fantastic… I didn’t know much of Escovado’s music but after that set I will be cherry picking a few tracks off iTunes. I think the highlight was Sister Lost Soul in which he dedicated to the great Steven Bruton.

Great show KLRU. Thanks again!
