I just read a very interesting blog, one that I don’t think many people know about. This particular blog is going to chronicle a very sucessful artist’s experiences of recording a 4th album. It’s especially interesting to me because I am currently recording my own songs….. and taking it a little more seriously than I have done in years past.
I have never considered myself a song writer. It’s very new to me. I am very critical of my lyrics and tend to think they are pretty “simple”. But, I guess I just come up with lyrics that “feel” right over the chords and melodies.
Here’s a snippet from that other person’s blog that REALLY made a lot of sense to me:
Even going into the studio with a guitar and a microphone and singing and strumming until I get something worthwhile isn’t conscious enough, because my mind still knows that there’s somebody engineering the recording session and my performance brain will take over and make sure I don’t sing or play anything embarrassing. The work has to be done alone and ahead of time.
So… wish me luck. I’m still writing and hopefully I can come up with 10 or 11 songs that “feel” right. This is going to be a long process because unlike many people that record I don’t have any record label or investors. It’s all me. I’ll try and take some photos and video from the studio from time to time.
Thanks to all the people on YouTube that have kind words to say…
tom
