My friend Scott

My friend and coworker Scott passed away this morning. He was a very good person and had a wife and two very young children. If you are a religious person please say a little prayer for his family. Scott worked on the weekend overnight shift at my job and therefore not a lot of people in the building got to know him. I was fortunate enough to have overlapping shifts with his and got to know him over the years. He was always very interested in my frequent vegas trips and even came up with the terms “vegas unit and super vegas fun unit” (this was because I would always compare amounts of money with the cost of taking a trip to vegas).

Scott was the sole reason I was able to get my CCNA certification. I tried for years to get that certification… studying off and on for months at a time. I failed it 3 times. Earlier this year, Scott got his and within weeks I had mine too. He spent an entire day with me at his home going over it with me. The very next day I had my CCNA and also had one of the top scores of our entire center.

Scott also was one of the few people to befriend some of the Indian contractors that came to the states to work with us at Cisco. Our company contracted a network operations center in Bangalore to shadow us and help with some of the work load. To get them up to speed quicker they sent a few guys over a few months at a time. Many of us got to know them but Scott was kind enough to invite them to his home, cook them dinner, meet their families and take them out and show them the area. He even helped a couple of them get their driver’s license, and helped them find vehicles while they were in town.

He was a good person and it’s a shame that many of the people at our job never got to know him. He loved his family, he loved working on cars, he loved his guns, he was very spiritual, funny, helpful and he worked VERY VERY hard to make ends meet.

My Vegas trip will be bitter sweet next week. I know Scott would still want me to go, and to utilize a “Super Vegas Fun Unit”. I’ll miss him.

Scott is just in my eyes, mind. its becoming very hard for me to believe this. i cannot forget those wonderfull momemts that i spent with him. we used to work in nights, i used to get to work with him on Sunday night. He helped me in all ways, i got to learn many things both professionally and personally. Scott even invited me to his home, we used to go for Shooting. he always used to have Dr.Pepper. He was really a wonderful person, a friend whom we can always look for. This news has shocked me in all senses. i still see Scott in my eyes. i dont have any words to explain Scott and his friendship. its a huge loss to me in person. I will definately miss him.

  3. I was among one of the contractors who spent time in austin. During my stay, I made good friends , Of them Scott was special. He was very much intrested in Indian culture. He helped me out to get my learners license.

All those memories linger in the mind , the time spent with his family, shooting at Eagles shooting Range and French restaurent at Round Rock. He wanted to come to my marriage to India…..

my prayers are with his Family

  4. My buddy Deena from India has asked that I leave this comment on his behalf.

“I lost one of my best US friend that I have ever met. He is so friendly, very kindness, I haven’t seen a guy like this in US. We use to go shooting range, he taught me shooting and many places in Austin, while I was there. Last but not least, he loves to work on cars, he took care of my car as his own car. I never been to a mechanic shop, he used to work on my car helped me a lot. He has 2 kid, Hunter 4 (yrs) Mckenzee (2y) and his wife Bernadette, his entire family loves Indian food, we use to go out for lunches, dinner very often. I ran out of words to express my feelings. Its a incredible loss to my friendship. My prayers are always there for his family. I MISS YOU A LOT SCOTT HEYSE :(

    Regards,
    Deena

  5. I just wanted to write to say thank you guys for all the kind words spoken about my husband. He loved working at Cisco Systems and mainly working with all you wonderful guys. I have been deeply touched by the many kind words spoken about my husband. He always worried if he made any kind of difference at work. His birthday is coming up this month…on the 25th of Jan. Just keep us in mind and mainly Scott. He would of been 39.
thanks and much love Bernadette and the kids
